Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how Spotvoy works. Can't find an answer? Email us.
What is Spotvoy?
Spotvoy is a flight search for families and value-conscious travelers. We compare multiple providers, add bag and seat costs, and recommend the flight we'd actually book — not just the cheapest headline fare.
What does 'true trip cost' mean?
The headline fare shown by most booking sites is just the base fare. True trip cost adds checked bag fees (typically $35–60 per bag each way), seat selection fees (if seats together are required), and an estimate of ground transport to and from the airport. For a family of four, these additions can add $200–400 to the apparent cheapest flight.
Which flight providers does Spotvoy search?
Spotvoy searches across multiple flight data providers simultaneously and deduplicates results. The specific providers change as we add coverage. We always disclose which sources were searched for any given result.
Does Spotvoy book flights directly?
When in-app booking is enabled, you can book flights, hotels, rental cars, and activities on Spotvoy in one checkout. We charge a disclosed 5.0% Spotvoy service fee on in-app bookings. When merchant booking is unavailable, we link you directly to the airline or partner site with no Spotvoy fee.
How does Spotvoy make money?
On in-app bookings, Spotvoy charges a disclosed 5.0% service fee. We also earn affiliate commissions when you book through partner links (hotels, cars, activities) when merchant booking is unavailable. We never earn commissions on flights, and flight rankings are always independent of any commercial relationship.
Can I cancel my Spotvoy booking?
It depends on the fare or rate you booked—not a single Spotvoy deadline. Refundable flights may be cancellable before departure (sometimes with a penalty); non-refundable fares often cannot be cancelled online. Hotels follow the property’s policy (e.g. free cancellation until a date shown at booking). When online cancellation is available, we show a live refund quote; you must confirm before that quote expires (usually about 30 minutes) or request a new quote. Card refunds are proportional to what the supplier returns. Email hello@spotvoy.com if online cancel isn’t available.
Why does Spotvoy compare nearby airports?
In metro areas like Los Angeles, the 'cheapest' airport depends heavily on where you're traveling to and from. A flight into SNA (John Wayne) might cost $30 more than LAX but save $60 in rideshare costs if you're staying in Orange County. Spotvoy automatically searches nearby airports and factors ground transport into its recommendations.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can search flights anonymously. Signing in with Google lets you save searches and trips for future reference, and gives Spotvoy more context to make better recommendations over time.
How accurate are the true trip cost estimates?
Bag fee data is generally accurate based on published airline policies, which Spotvoy tracks. Seat selection costs are estimates based on typical pricing for each airline. Ground transport estimates are based on typical costs for the airports involved. These numbers can vary — Spotvoy shows confidence levels and explains any assumptions.
Does Spotvoy work for international flights?
Spotvoy's current focus is US domestic routes, particularly from major West Coast and Midwest metros. International coverage is planned for a future release.
